Hi all Just over a year ago I purchased the above receiver as part of a 5.1 package that came with speakers and sub. Since having it I have never been impressed with the sound but just thought that as it was only approx £350 that this was just what it is. Since this I have been ti numerous friends houses who have cheap £199 all in 1 deals with Blu-Ray / DVD etc and theirs sound substantially better than what I have ever listened to on mine. I have read the manual and changed just about every setting possible to no avail. The bass is practically non existent! When listening to a music channel it's not much better than listening to the internal speakers of an iPod.

Has anyone else had this model and had the same problem or can anyone recommend anything??? Thanks in advance. Ok few elimination questions that I can think of are: Have you ever turned the system up very loud causing damage to the speakers? Does playback sound tinny through all of your devices or only sky For sound are you using HDMI Cables? Optical cable? You may have messed around with the settings so much and forgetting what you have changed?

Maybe do a factory reset and start from scratch. I think for factory reset turn on the amp press and hold down the vcr/dvr button then press power button again. As I said before im only learning myself so my knowledge is really basic. Something is definitely not right if it sounds as bad as your saying.

My Sky+ HD is connected to the CBL/SAT Section of the amp via HDMI and I use a Optical cable from sky box to amp for the audio as my sky hd box only sends stereo sound via the HDMI cable. Click to expand.I have this system and I'm planning on upgrading in the near future as it does lack that 'oomph' but I have got it at a reasonable level.

Set the crossover between 100 and 150. Next, get an SPL meter or if you have an iPhone, get this app (i used this): Set it to 'C' weighted and 'slow'. Next, go into the speaker level calibration on the reciever and highlight the centre speaker. While the test tone is playing, sit where you would normally sit and turn the master volume (not centre speaker level) up until it reaches 75db on the SPL meter. Leave the volume this high for the next step.

Next, you go through all the remaining speaker levels (not master volume) turning them up and down until they all reach 75db. On the subwoofer levels though, aim for 80-85db. That should provide you with better sound.

Also, don't use direct. It bypasses the subwoofer on this system. I usually use All Ch Stereo when watching Sky and when a 5.1 source comes on, it changes anyway.

After doing the above, it was a lot more bassy but without removing the clarity from blu rays, games etc. For example, Transformers actually sound like giant robots rather than giant hollow tin cans. Hope this helps!
